Martina Hoogland Ivanow

For Martina Hoogland Ivanow photography means working with the unconscious, with the technique, but also with reality. In her images she seeks to create a room for the viewer, rather asking the questions instead of providing the answers.

Martina Hoogland Ivanow´s images are a visual meditation on distance, both physical and emotional, of closeness to a subject and remoteness from a place. This focus is always apparent in her gorgeous and mysterious photographs in which she often uses dark contrasts. Martina Hoogland Ivanow´s pictures are visual poetry, now and then keeping hold of a strophe, captured in shadows and fog. The dark, mesmerizing aesthetic of her images conveys a heightened presence, real and simultaneously poetic. This unique aesthetic also shines through in her work for numerous fashion designers and magazines.

Martina Hoogland Ivanow was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1973. She holds a B.A. in Fine Art with a major in Photography from Parsons School of Design in Paris, France and New York, USA.
